CERT.GE, the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) of GRENA, the Georgian national research and education network ranked in the top three competitors at a recent cyber security event held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
CYBER-EXE Georgia 2017 on 15 December was organised by CERT.GOV.GE, the Government Computer Emergency quick response group from the Data Exchange Agency of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.
Both CERT.GE and CERT.GOV.GE are affiliated with TF-CSIRT, the GÉANT community’s task force on computer security and response activities.
CYBER-EXE
Twenty teams from both the public and private sectors participated in CYBER-EXE Georgia 2017, which was the fourth time this event was held in the country. The purpose of the competition was to raise security awareness, to analyse each team’s strengths and weaknesses and to make recommendations on how to improve their skills.
Each team of three people prepared in advance for the event’s security exercises which dealt with specific tasks. Each team was given a ‘secret’ number so they could see their position and their number of points, and the final ranking published the secret numbers and not the teams’ names, so remained anonymous. The level of competition was high. The GRENA team shared 3rd place based on points.
